How to make turkey
It’s a rare year where, for whatever reason, I have five clients over the holidays, and now I get to watch a very humorous psychic division play out.
I will talk in very broad strokes about the clients. You will probably not be able to figure out who’s whom. But it remains very interesting all the same.
One client operates seasonally, and autumn isn’t the season. So they do not run sales on Black Friday. Meetings with them are relaxed. Shoulders are dropped, rolled back. “Oh yeah,” they say wistfully, “we tried Black Friday once, but nobody cared. We sold one thing.”
Another client is a luxury brand that price-fixes, and so they do not run sales at all, let alone on Black Friday. “It must be weird,” a director told me, “to build up to this one day and then have it be over. We work on longer term relationships with our customers.” Indeed.
