I mean, you’re going to eat street food. You don’t go all the way there, wherever there is, so you can eat cheffy stuff all the time. That is a renunciation of possibility and you know it.
Street food equals or tops fine dining in many places in the world. I would rather pay $1.20 for a bowl of noodles in a random Bangkok alley than go anywhere Michelin-starred in that city.
Food is egalitarian. You should eat what normal people eat wherever you travel, for whatever definition of “normal” you so desire. Seek nameless places, full of people who triple-take you when you come in the door.
Easily 90% of the best food I’ve eaten while traveling is street food. Maybe more. All of my favorite traveling stories are about street food.
