The trial & grim error of our zero waste rumspringa
There is a genre of objects that falls under the genre of zero waste. It is made without plastic, reusable, reused, compostable. There are bamboo toothbrushes, biodegradable dog poop bags, all-natural deodorants, bar shampoo.
This all came about because of climate change, of course, and because personal responsibility can be leveraged in the service of something greater.
I just spent two years stuck inside trying basically all of this stuff, and now I am convinced that the zero waste movement is 50% an unconditional, consciousness-shifting success, and the rest of it is an abject failure.
To half of the industries that are trying to get started here: I tried. I really tried. I went back to the old thing because what you make sucks. It doesn’t perform well. Society evolved to do what it’s doing for a reason. This is an invitation to beat whatever we were doing before. You haven’t yet. Congratulations on the expansive opportunity that spreads before you.
