What tech causes
First, an administrative note: my apologies for no text this past week. I was sick. Really sick. I was so sick that I forgot to write an announcement that I would be sick.
I’m still sick, but now I’m well enough to write text. There will be more text this week to make up for the lack of text last week. Enjoy your deluge of text.
I’ve read a couple of pieces lately, one of which is almost objectively bad, that call for a renewed sense of optimism in tech. Which, you know, okay. For pretty much our entire history, by whatever definition of history you so desire, tech has been doggedly optimistic about what it is & does. But tech hasn’t had a very good decade. Mostly it’s acknowledged for ripping society apart, destabilizing democracy, accelerating late capitalism, and creating more harm through the surveillance state.
